RebarHatSm.jpg (8014 bytes)
ABOVE:  These plastic covers are referred to as "Hats," and are used to cover the sharp ends of steel rebar which protrudes from a concrete foundation wall.  Without such a cover, construction workers could easily impale themselves if they were to fall on a section of rebar.  These plastic covers are also used to cap electrical conduit and other sharp objects which remain exposed until a wall is completed.

Compared to other industries, construction projects are inherently more dangerous to employees, tenants, owners, and the public.   Almost any construction site can be potentially hazardous no matter how simple the project may be.  In addition, construction sites are especially attractive to children, who may not realize the potential hazards, and who like to play among the unfinished structures and construction equipment.

Because of these potential hazards, Sinnett Builders has established one of the most comprehensive and stringent safety programs in Northern Colorado.   Sinnett Builders employs "Overland Safety", a Professional Safety Consultant, to administrate our safety program and to train employees on safe methods of constructions, evaluate job sites and their potential hazards, and to keep Sinnett Builders equipment in safe condition. Overland Safety constantly researches and implements new, more effective construction methods and equipment to keep Sinnett Builders projects safe.  Additionally, Overland Safety helps Sinnett Builders comply with all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.

Field Supervisors must complete special training to eliminate as many potential safety hazards on their jobsites as possible.   Every Sinnett Builders employee is required to wear a hard hat at all times, as well as long pants (not shorts), and shirts which cover the torso while working on a Sinnett Builders project site.

All Sinnett Builders field employees attend a weekly Safety meeting, conducted by each Field Supervisor, every Monday morning at the project sites.  Each week employees are trained on a new subject area of construction safety.  Employees are trained on how to protect project sites from trespassers (including children), wind damage and flying debris, cold weather hazards, the safe use of construction tools and equipment, and other safety concerns.

Sinnett Builders also has implemented safety incentive programs for field employees.  Those employees who maintain a safety record of 24 months or longer receive jackets and other rewards.

When calculating the success of these safety programs, Sinnett Builders even includes lost work days due to employee illnesses resulting from exposure to natural elements such as the cold.  Out of more than 87,000 field work hours last year, the number of employee work days lost was a mere .001%—only ten total days.  Sinnett Builders' Workmen's Compensation Experience Modification Rate has continued to range above 90% since 1995.

Due to these safety programs, Sinnett Builders enjoys a superior safety record compared to other Northern Colorado Contractors.    The Colorado Department of Labor Division of Workmen's Compensation has consistently awarded Sinnett Builders each year with a "Premium Cost Containment Certificate" which allows Sinnett Builders to obtain the lowest possible insurance rates for its employees.  In turn, these savings in insurance costs make Sinnett Builders not only a safer contractor, but a more competitive contractor.

"The Linden Hotel project was unique and challenging because it was critical to meet both state and federal historic tax credit requirements and schedules, as well as coordinating and meeting tenant needs.  The original building was built in 1880 on a corner lot.  Care and ingenuity was required in working with the delicate masonry of the building on a limited site.  Sinnett Builders was not only successful in meeting these challenges, but was extremely responsive and cooperative.   We always look forward to working with Dennis Sinnett and Project Manager Ted Beers."
